High Five for Friday!

photo H54Fbutton-1_zpsa7aaa665.pngHey y’all! (Yep, I said y’all.)  Sorry I haven’t posted much this week, but I am linking up with Lauren at for H54F!  Here is what I have been up to this week!

1.  On Saturday night, I babysat this cutie and painted her toenails.  I also did my nails in the same color, and she loved that we matched!  This girl has more personality than she  knows what to do with lol!575445_10100419636427436_599796343_n

2.  On Sunday night, my hubby and I went to a cookout with some of our very good friends (one family is the same one I babysat for the night before).  It was so much fun to eat, play ladder golf, then chill around the fire after the kiddos had gone to bed.  My hubby and I are the only ones in that group that don’t have kids, but I love getting to play and love on their cuties!

3.  On Memorial Day, we had some friends over to hang out at our neighborhood pool and a cookout at our place.  Of course, I managed to not take any pictures, though I doubt y’all mind not being subjected to pictures of me in a bathing suit.  Anyway, it was fun to hang out with some other couples that don’t have kids (we’ve nicknamed ourselves “the barren couples” haha).  That night, Jeff and I watched Act of Valor.  It was a perfect way to be reminded of what our soldiers do and sacrifice on a daily basis to keep our country free.

4.  Tonight, I am having a girls’ night in at my house! Wine and friends, need I say more?!

5.  Tomorrow, we are planning to attend the funeral for my hubby’s childhood pastor, who also married us.  Though it is a sad time, it is also a time for rejoicing as we know he is in heaven celebrating with his Jesus!

How has your week been?

Happy Memorial Day!

In honor of Memorial Day, I wanted to say thank you to all of the men and women who have served or currently serve to protect the freedom of this wonderful country we call home.  I truly appreciate the sacrifices these people, along with their families, have made.

Freedom isn’t free.

DIY Heated Eyelash Curler

ImagePart of my daily makeup routine is applying mascara.  But before I apply the mascara, I always use an eyelash curler because my eyelashes are relatively straight.  A few years ago, I read a tip in some magazine about heating your eyelash curler to make the curl even better.  Lifechanging!!! AND you don’t have to buy an expensive heated eyelash curler like one of these.  All you have to do is take your regular metal eyelash curler, get your hairdryer, and point the hairdryer at the eyelash curler for a couple of seconds with the setting on warm.  You can also press the curler against your straightener or curling iron if it is on.  Be careful not to get the curler too hot or you’ll burn your eyes.

What is one of your little beauty tricks/secrets?

Going Greek

This past weekend was the Greek Festival at the Greek Orthodox Church here in town.  My family and I look forward this festival every year because of how good the food is! My dad is actually full-blooded Greek, so my siblings and I are half-Greek and take a lot of pride in our Greek heritage.  Though we don’t believe in the Greek Orthodox views, we still enjoy going to to the festival and pigging out on all the yummy food.   My hubby and I ended up eating there twice this weekend. We had friends that wanted to try it out on Friday night, and then we met up with my sister and brother on Saturday to eat there again.

Leg of lamb with “Greek” green beans and a roll— one of many delicious items they have!

Needless to say, we ate WWWAAAYYYY too much this weekend, but it was so worth it!

What did you do this weekend?  Do you have any events that you look forward to each year?

Dirty Little Secret

I have a secret… it’s kind of a dirty one.  Do you promise not to tell?

Okay… I admit it…  I don’t wash my hair every day.

Now that I have that off my chest, I can fill you in on how I keep this a secret: dry shampoo! I discovered them about 2 years ago and it changed my life (ok, I’m exaggerating a little).  But they have been the key in being able to skip days between shampoos, which has made my hair so much healthier and my highlights last longer.

I’ve tried several different ones over the last couple of years, but these two are my favorites right now:

Bedhead Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo

I really like this one on days I want to wear my hair up because it give a lot of texture to my hair.

***Bonus! Bedhead products are Buy 2, Get 1 Free at Ulta this week!***

KMS Hair Play

I like this one on days I want to just straighten my hair and leave it down.  It absorbs the oil but keep my hair feeling soft.

Do you use dry shampoo?  If so, what is your favorite one?

Not Your Usual Case of the Mondays

I had to work Saturday for graduation, so I had today off.  It was very needed, especially after all celebrations this past week.  So Linux (my dog) and I have been hanging out all day.

My puppy!

Isn’t he adorable?!

It has been a relaxing but productive day.  After I finally got up about 9:30am, I did some cleaning and put up my new wreath that my mother-in-law made.  She is so talented! She did the colors on the wreath to match my yard flag.

I also went for a run (it is BEAUTIFUL today), did some grocery shopping, got dinner planned out, and am now watching the last few episodes of Gilmore Girls so I’ll have a good cry soon I’m sure.

So how has your Monday been?

High Five for Friday!

Wow! What a week!  I’m linking up with Lauren for H54F! So, where to start?!?

1.  It was my husband’s birthday on Wednesday! I posted about it here. We have basically been celebrating all week!  We went to dinner Saturday night with his family, went to Raleigh on Wednesday and had dinner with our best friends, had dinner with my family on Thursday, and then we are having our date night to celebrate on Saturday night. So much for the diet…

2.  I picked these up at Anthropologie while we were in Raleigh.  I’ve never bought anything in there before (it’s a little out of my budget) but I thought these were really cute!  And then I managed to drop the yellow one when we got home and it completely shattered. 😦944130_10100406382438536_1480017901_n

3.  Our passports came!!! We are going on a cruise in September to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, so we finally had a reason to get these.  I hope this gives us more incentive to do more traveling now!

4.  I had a yard sale on Saturday, and it went REALLY well!  We sold a bunch of stuff, and the things that were left at the end of the day went straight to Goodwill.  It feels so freeing to have all that junk out of our house.

Sorry that this picture hasn’t been “Instagramed” lol

5.  On Sundays, we almost always go out to lunch after church with some friends.  We are one of the few couples in our Life Group class that don’t have kids yet, so we have a lot of fun entertaining our friends’ kids so they can enjoy their lunch.  This little girl is absolutely hilarious.  She was looking at herself in the front-facing camera on my phone when she grabbed my sunglasses, put them on, then made the “duck lips” pose.  I managed to reach over and click the button in time to snap this picture of her.  Every time I see it, I start laughing.  I really hope my kids are this cute (one day).

How has your week been?!

26 Reasons

Today is my husband’s 26th birthday!  In honor of his special day, I thought I would share 26 things I love about him (and a few photos too).

  1. I love his laugh.  It’s infectious.
  2. I love that I was his first kiss.

  3. I love that he is tall.  I’m 5’2″ and he’s 6’2.”  When he wraps his arms around me, I feel completely enveloped and safe.

  4. I love that he is a nerd.  He’d rather play video games or watch Monty Python than watch football any day.
  5. I love that he is handy.  He might be nerdy, but he’s also pretty handy with a hammer.  He made this coffee table a few months ago:
  6. I love that he has a heart for teenagers.  We are both leaders in the youth group at our church, but he is definitely the re was the reason we are involved.
  7. I love his calmness.  I tend to be very “fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants” and make rash, emotional decisions.  He is much more calm and thoughtful before making decisions.
  8. I love it when he dances in the car and doesn’t care who sees.
  9. I love his glasses (I might be a nerd at heart too lol).

  10. I love that he doesn’t check out other girls (seriously, he doesn’t).  Definitely helps me in the self-esteem department!
  11. I love that he is really good with kids.  I can’t wait to have kids with him one day because he will be a great father!
  12. I love that he has held true to our vows, especially the part that says “for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health.”  I will probably touch on this more at a later time, but we’ve already been through some major financial struggles in our 5 years of marriage, and I have also had some health struggles, yet he’s stuck with me through it all.

  13. I love that he is a morning person.  I am definitely not, but he’s starting to show me some of the benefits of becoming an early riser.
  14. I love his curly hair.  I sure hope our kids get that from him.
  15. I love how much he values his family.
  16. I love his smile.
  17. I love that he kisses me goodbye every morning before he leaves to work, even if I am not awake.

  18. I love how patient he is.  I can be quite a handful, especially since I have a little bit of a temper, but he is patient with me through all my crazy moods.
  19. I love that he calls me beautiful, even when it’s first thing in the morning and I have no makeup on, my hair is a mess, and I’ve got morning breath.
  20. I love his legs.  He has strong muscular legs— not tiny, scrawny legs like most guys.  (Is that too much info???)
  21. I love his fear of heights and roller coasters.  It’s very entertaing to get him scream like a little girl if I can actually convince him to get on one.

Due to his fear of heights, he wouldn't take a picture with me sitting on the wall. I couldn't stop laughing.

  22. I love that he’ll watch Gilmore Girls with me… over and over and over…
  23. I love cuddling on the couch, watching movies, and just hanging out with each other.

  24. I love that he can cook.  He looks sexy in an apron.
  25. I love that he is a country boy at heart.  His dream is to have a bunch of land so he can have chickens and grow his own food.  Hopefully we’ll make that dream come true one day.
  26. I love that he is my husband. Plain and simple.

Makeup Mash-up

I love playing with makeup and beauty products.   I really enjoy trying new products, but when I find something I love, I will use it every day.  Here are a few of my current faves:

1. Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner:  This stuff holds up to its name!  I put this on in the morning and it lasts ALL day.  Usually after an 8 hour work day, my makeup does not look very “fresh,” but this eyeliner still looks like it was just applied.

2. Eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm:  Makes your lips so soft!!!  I carry one of these in my purse and one in my workbag so I have one handy at all times.  However, 1-2 applications a day is all you need.  This balm doesn’t dry out your lips like other  lip balms, which mean you don’t feel the need to constantly apply it.

3.  Benefit Fine-One-One:  This is a blush and highlighter, plus you can wear as a lip tint (I haven’t tried that yet though).  I was a little wary about this product at first because I haven’t liked cream blushes before, but this one glides on smoothly and blends really well.  It is a little pricey but has lasted a long time.  I bought it 3 months ago, wear it every day, and I’d say I still have another month before I run out.

What are some of your favorite makeup products?

(I shop at Ulta for most of my beauty products, and all of the items below can be found at your local store or online.)

High Five for Friday

Wow! What a crazy week! I’m sorry I haven’t posted much.  This week has completely gotten away from me!  So, I figured for this High Five for Friday post, I would fill you in on why this week has been so crazy!

1.  I got stuck at work late Monday so I missed yoga that day.  I had planned to go to a class, but I missed both afternoon class times.  This ended up working to my benefit though because I needed to run a couple errands.  Plus I got to suprise my hubby with dinner.  He has been working so hard on a project at work, and hasn’t slept much.  He was taking a nap when I got home and was very suprised to wake up to a home-cooked meal.

2. On Tuesday, I went to watch this girl play soccer.  I have known her since she was 5 years old.  Now she’s a teenager and turning into a beautiful young lady.  And I’m depressed about how old I’m getting…

3.  On Wednesday, I just crashed! I spent the evening on the couch, eating pizza, and watching Gilmore Girls with my hubby.  Yes, he is the best husband ever because not only does he watch GG with me, he actually likes the show.

4.  On Thursday, I had a dentist appointment after work.  I used to have a HUGE fear of going to the dentist but I started going to a new place two years ago, and I absolutely love them.  They are so nice and patient with me (no matter how many times they tell me I need to floss everyday— which I don’t. TMI?).  I actually look forward to going to the dentist now!

5.  My mom’s neighborhood is having their community-wide yardsale on Saturday, so I have been cleaning out and taking loads of stuff to her house.  I’m sure she is loving that she can’t find her dining room right now, but once the yardsale is over, anything that is left will go straight to Goodwill.  I REFUSE to take anything back into the house after a yardsale.  I’m the opposite of a hoarder (which is sometimes not exactly a positive thing— I’ll throw things away that I later regret just because it’s taking up space).

How has your week been? Hope it’s been more calm than mine!
