High Five for Friday!

I’m linking up with Lauren at thelaurenelizabeth.com for High Five for Friday.

Well, Friday is almost over already, but hey, better late than never, right?!  So here is what I’ve been up to on this very eventful week!

1) Jeff and I had a fun time celebrating our 5th anniversary this past weekend.  We went to The Little Dipper, a local fondue place, then we went to see “The Way, Way Back.”  It was really good! I laughed, I cried, I wanted to punch Steve Carell in the face haha… he did such a good job portraying a jerk.  Anyway, here are some pics from our date:

Yummy fondue at The Little Dipper

2) This past weekend was also North Carolina’s tax-free shopping weekend, so I took full advantage of it.  I went to LOFT on Friday and got some great deals, including 3 pairs of pants for $20 each.  On Saturday, we met Jeff’s mom and Kohl’s and got Jeff some much-needed work clothes.  Then Jeff’s mom and I got manicures and pedicures.  I finally got her to try a bold color: OPI’s Cajun Shrimp.

Had to get a pair in every color

Pretty nails

3) On Sunday, I got to enjoy some sun and time at the pool with some friends.  Even though we had to run in the house thanks to a random thunderstorm, we still had a good time and got some much needed Vitamin D.

4) My husband has been growing some pepper and tomato plants in our back “yard” (by that I mean, our patio).  Several of the peppers have ripened.  It feels great to have grown something ourselves!

5) An old friend of mine got married yesterday.  Her sister threw a linger shower Tuesday, which was a lot of fun! And I’m pretty sure she is the Pinterest Princess— her decorations are amazing!945809_10100489915806996_914019970_n

The wedding was held at St. Thomas Preservation Hall and it was so incredibly beautiful!  The bride and groom were just beaming with love.  It was also great to catch up with a lot of friends from high school!

The wedding was held in a historic church that has been turned into an event hall. It was so romantic.

Old friends

Hope you have had been able to spend some quality time with friends this week, too!  I am already sad that this week is over and it might be a while before I see all of these people again.

A Good Hair(dryer) Day

Sorry for the cheesy titles.  That is the thing I am probably the worst at when it comes to blog posts haha!

A few weeks ago, I picked up the Hot Tools Tourmaline Tools 2000 Turbo IONIC Professional Dryer at Ulta. My old dryer was literally falling apart and I had been eyeing this one from Hot Tools.  I had actually been in Ulta on Saturday and it was $84.99, and went back in on Sunday to get shampoo and conditioner that I knew was on sale.  I, of course, had to take a peak at the hair dryers again, and lo and behold, it had been marked down to $59.99! That sealed the deal for me (I LOVE a sale) so I picked it up!

Before my Hot Tools hair dryer, I had an older model of this Conair Infiniti Pro Hair Dryer (it was probably 2 years old). It was good hair dryer, especially for the price, but I really love my Hot Tools curling irons, so I figured I’d give one of their hair dryers a try and most of them were still reasonably priced. My dream hairdryer would be the Rusk Speed Freak 2000 but that was a little bit more than I wanted to spend.

So far, I have been very happy with my choice! Some things that I love about the Hot Tools dryer:

1) The weight!  The Hot Tools dryer is only 15 ounces versus the Conair which is 2.8 pounds. It took some getting used to actually.  I’m not sure why, but sometimes I worry that light = cheap.  This is definitely not the case with this hair dryer.

2) The noise (well, lack of it).  It is so much quieter than the Conair.  I think some of this has to do with it the fact that the “High” setting on the Hot Tools dryer doesn’t blow as hard as the Conair, but it dries my hair in the same amount of time.  I’ll talk more about that below.

3) It definitely seems to leave my hair softer and less frizzy than the Conair.  This is big deal for me since the summers are very humid hear and I battle daily with my hair wanting to frizz because of it.

4) It has both a concentrator, a diffuser, and a straightening pik. At least the in-store one does.  It only lists the concentrator on the Hot Tools dryer listed on Ulta.comI haven’t used either yet though.

The only “negative” in my opinion is that the box claimed that it would dry my hair 50% faster compared to other dryers.  I actually timed it and it saved me about 5 seconds (with the Conair it took about 4 min. 20 sec.; for the Hot Tools it took about 4 min. 16 sec.).  However, as I mentioned above, it is a lot quieter than the Conair and the “high” setting isn’t as powerful as the Conair’s was (to keep it quieter would be my guess), so with that in mind, it does dry pretty fast.  I just put that as a negative as it doesn’t hold up to its claim, but it’s not a big deal for me.  I could see it might be important for someone whose hair takes much longer to blow dry than mine.

To wrap it up, I think this is a very good hair dryer and would highly recommend it.  Do you have a hair styling tool that you love?

5 Years

One of my favorite pictures from our wedding

Today is my 5th Anniversary.  I’ve been MARRIED for FIVE years… whoa!  I honestly can’t believe it in some ways.  Mainly because it just doesn’t feel like we’ve been married that long.  These last five years have flown by.  It really feels like it was just yesterday that I was walking down the aisle to say my vows to the man I was going to spend my life with.

Chillin’

When I said the words, “”I, Sophi, take thee, Jeff, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.” I had no idea just how encompassing those words would be.   We have definitely had better times and worse times.  We have been broke enough that we wouldn’t go anywhere all weekend because we couldn’t put gas in our car.  We have dealt with health issues, as I talked about here.   We haven’t always loved and cherished each other like we should, but we persevered through it all.  We’ve learned more and more what love really is.

Another shot that I absolute love

Sometimes I miss the “newness” of the beginning of a relationship.  You know, where you are scared to hold hands at first, then you finally do for the first time.  The first date. The first kiss.  BUT I wouldn’t trade what we have for anything.  I am incredibly blessed to have found my husband.  He is the complete opposite of me in every way, and I love that.  He has shown me how to enjoy the small things, how to think things through instead of making a rash decision as I am very prone to do, how to be a true friend, how to be myself and not care about what others think.  I’ve shown him how to talk to just about anyone, how to be spontaneous, and how to dress.  Important values, I know…

We love to torture my brother. We did this same pose at my sister’s wedding too. I hope we also do it when my brother finally gets married so we have a shot at each wedding.

Holding up my dress so that the fan on the floor can cool me off… still not sure why we thought an outdoor wedding in August was a good idea. It was HOT!!! This picture makes me laugh though!

Even as I reminisce on these last 5 years, I can’t help but get excited about what the next 5 years hold for us!
